西门子（Siemens）在混合能源解决方案上有着悠久的历史，甚至远远早于美国宇航局（NASA）就参与了混合电动飞机的研发和制造。援引商业内幕报道在一项私人投资项目中，西门子将会为初创合资公司 Brightline 创建混合柴油电动列车。

该混合柴油电动列车最高时速为 125mph（约合 201.2kph），速度可能比不上其他国家的列车，但是要比目前正在服役的 Amtrack 列车（约 128.7kph）要快很多。

该列车采用 4000 马力的康明斯柴油发电机驱动，此外还有一个重量为 42000 磅（约合 19.05 吨）的 16 缸发电机提供电力，列车上所使用的线缆长度达到了 42 英里。
